When a she is forced to let go of one of her secrets, will Shane stay, or will Rowan push him so far away he can’t make his way back?
Escape Part Three
Rowan cleared her throat before answering. She hardly spoke these days and found that her voice box needed a little warm up before it worked quite right. “Is it the afternoon already?”
“You’re so funny, Rowena.” Cheri laughed as if Rowan had just made joke. “I’ve come to clear your lunch dishes and clean for you. Jolly is planning to visit later and you know how he likes his environment clean.”
Rowan watched her as she started cleaning the room. These were privileges, she had learned, to clean her room. Rowan wasn’t allowed to clean or dust or even make her own bed. She was instructed to do nothing. To sit and contemplate her place in this world and all the ways she had led herself astray.
Escape Part Two
“God damn it, Shane!” She spun around almost smacking him. “You can’t do that. You can’t show up at work and wait for three hours like that.”
“Because it’s not normal. They were all asking about you. It’s not okay.” She threw her hands in the air exasperated.
He looked over her head; maybe he had over played his hand a bit. But she would have run from him if he hadn’t; he just knew it.
He swallowed hard before looking back at her, “When are you planning on leaving?”
